Trucking Accident Laws in Texas

Serving Dallas, Texas

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations governs all vehicles of interstate commerce. This includes commercial trucks, semi trucks, tractor-trailers, and eighteen-wheelers. The majority of truck accidents that occur in Texas involve trucks involved in interstate commerce, such as trucks traveling through Texas from another state or to another state.

However, there are some situations where a commercial truck is involved in intrastate travel in the state of Texas. For example, a truck may be making a run from Dallas to Houston. If this truck is involved in an accident, then Texas truck accident law will apply.

Most of Texas' truck laws are the same as Federal truck laws. One important difference is that Texas law requires the driver of a commercial truck to be 18 years of age, rather than the 21 years of required by other states. Texas truck law also has an English language requirement. Most other states ignore this, but Texas requires commercial truck drivers to pass an examination before being awarded a Texas driver's license.
